Supplying Power Across the Globe with Unmatched Expertise and Proven Track Record
For over 15 years, Marubeni New Power has been enhancing the quality of life through reliable power supply. Marubeni Group began its power business in 1955, pioneering electricity supply across various countries ahead of domestic competitors. Today, the Group operates large-scale power generation facilities worldwide, delivering electricity both domestically and internationally.
Extensive Track Record in Overseas Power Projects
The Marubeni Group’s power business began in 1979 with a comprehensive Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (*EPC) project for a geothermal power plant in the Philippines. Building on the expertise and experience gained, Marubeni expanded in the 1990s into constructing and operating its own power generation facilities. The Group also entered the Independent Power Producer (IPP) business, selling electricity to utility companies. Today, Marubeni Group provides a stable, long-term power supply across 23 countries, including Japan. Additionally, the Group is focusing on renewable energy, such as wind and natural gas-fired power generation. As of December 2017, Marubeni’s attributable power generation capacity reached 12,284 MW, one of the largest among Japanese general trading companies.
(*)EPC business: Electric power business that undertakes the engineering, procurement, and construction of power plants on a lump-sum basis.
Managing 32 Power Plants Across Japan
Since entering the Japanese electric power market in 2002, Marubeni Group has supplied electricity to a variety of facilities, including office buildings, warehouses, schools, and leisure facilities, and also offers wholesale power to utility companies.
In 2016, Marubeni New Power Co., Ltd. was established to enter the household retail electricity market. By 2018, combined commercial and residential sales reached approximately 2.6 million kW, making it one of the industry leaders in customer registrations.
